Appointments to Advisory Committee of the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged announced

     The Government today (January 27) announced the appointment of six new members and the re-appointment of six incumbent members to the Advisory Committee of the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged for a term of two years with effect from February 1, 2017.    
 
     The six new members are Professor Alice Chong Ming-lin, Mr Raymond Lai Kwan-ho, Mr Allen Lau Kai-hung, Ms Irene Leung Shuk-yee, Mr Justin Wai and Miss Yim Chor-pik.
 
     Professor Alice Chong Ming-lin is the Associate Head of the Department of Applied Social Sciences, City University of Hong Kong. She is also a member of the Advisory Committee on Social Work Training and Manpower Planning.
 
     Mr Raymond Lai Kwan-ho is the Chief Manager in Youth, Family and Community Services of the Salvation Army Social Services Department.
 
     Mr Allen Lau Kai-hung is the Deputy Managing Partner - Southern China of Deloitte China.
 
     Ms Irene Leung Shuk-yee is the Chief Executive Officer of the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association. She is also a member of the Social Enterprise Advisory Committee and the Telecommunications Users and Consumers Advisory Committee.
 
     Mr Justin Wai is a Principal of the Real Estate Group at the Blackstone Group.
 
     Miss Yim Chor-pik is the Design Director of RPM Workstation. She is also the Chairperson of the Direction Association for the Handicapped and a member of the Women's Commission.
 
     Six incumbent members, namely Ms Jasmine Chan Hoi-yan, Dr Raymond Lee Man-chun, Mr Rex Mok Chung-fai, Ms Malina Ngai Man-lin, Ms Angelique Tam Chi-wah and Ms May Wong May-kwan, have been re-appointed.
 
     The Acting Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Stephen Sui, said that the appointed and re-appointed members had vast experience in their professions and community services, and he looked forward to their valuable advice on the development of the Fund and promotion of cross-sector collaboration in Hong Kong to help the disadvantaged. He also thanked the six outgoing members, Mr Ivan Ho Shiu-cheong, Mr Lee Yuen-tai, Dr Ting Wai-fong, Mr Raymond Wong Ka-ning, Mr Edward Wong Siu-lung and Mr Ivan Yiu Tze-leung, for their support and contribution to the Fund.
 
     The Advisory Committee, chaired by the Director of Social Welfare, examines applications for the Fund and advises on matters relating to its operation.
 
     The Government established the Fund with $200 million in 2005 to promote the development of tripartite partnerships among the welfare community, the business sector and the Government to help the disadvantaged. In May 2010, additional funding of $200 million was injected into the Fund to encourage further cross-sector collaboration in this regard. The Chief Executive announced in the 2014 Policy Address the injection of an additional $400 million into the Fund, of which $200 million was dedicated to launching more after-school learning and support programmes to facilitate the whole-person development of primary and secondary students from grass-roots families.
