Temporary traffic and transport arrangements for tram track renewal works in Western District from next Wednesday

     The Transport Department (TD) today (January 26) reminded the public that temporary traffic and transport arrangements to facilitate tram track renewal works will be implemented in Western District from 8am next Wednesday (February 1) to 6am on February 6.

Temporary traffic arrangements
------------------------------------

1. From 8am on February 1 to 7.59am on February 3:

* The southern kerbside lane of Belcher's Street from a point about 20 metres east of its junction with Davis Street to a point about 60m east of the same junction will be temporarily designated as a restricted zone 24 hours daily.

* The following road sections will be temporarily closed to all vehicles:
(i) the offside and middle lanes of Belcher's Street westbound from a point about 70m east of its junction with Davis Street to a point about 20m west of the same junction;
(ii) the nearside lane of Davis Street northbound from its junction with Belcher's Street to a point about 30m south of the same junction; and
(iii) the offside lane of Davis Street southbound from its junction with Belcher's Street to a point about 25m north of the same junction.

2. From 8am on February 3 to 6am on February 6:

* The northern kerbside lane of Belcher's Street from a point about 20m east of its junction with Davis Street to a point about 60m east of the same junction will be temporarily designated as a restricted zone 24 hours daily.

* The following road sections will be temporarily closed to all vehicles:
(i) the nearside and middle lanes of Belcher's Street westbound from a point about 60m east of its junction with Davis Street to a point about 25m west of the same junction;
(ii) the nearside lane of Davis Street northbound from its junction with Belcher's Street to a point about 30m south of the same junction;
(iii) the offside lane of Davis Street southbound from its junction with Belcher's Street to a point about 25m north of the same junction; and
(iv) Kwan Yick Street southbound from its junction with Belcher's Street to a point about 10m south of the same junction.

3. From 9am on February 1 to 1.15am on February 6:

* The offside lane of Catchick Street eastbound from its junction with Davis Street to a point about 40m east of the same junction will be temporarily closed to all vehicles (except trams).

4. From 8am on February 1 to 6am on February 6:

* The section of Davis Street between Forbes Street and Belcher's Street will be temporarily designated as a prohibited zone for vehicles exceeding 8m in length;
* Vehicles exceeding 8m in length will be temporarily prohibited from making a right turn from Forbes Street onto Davis Street northbound. Affected vehicles on Forbes Street heading for Belcher's Street westbound via Davis Street northbound will be diverted via Cadogan Street northbound, Catchick Street eastbound and Smithfield southbound.
* Vehicles on Cadogan Street northbound are temporarily allowed to make a left turn onto Victoria Road westbound.

Temporary transport arrangements

     The Kennedy Town Tram Terminus at Catchick Street outside the Merton Tower 2 will be suspended. Passengers can use the westbound tram stop at Catchick Street near Davis Street (tram stop No. 104W) for taking the eastbound tram services.

     Appropriate traffic signs and road markings will be erected on-site to guide motorists. Hong Kong Tramways will display notices to advise passengers of the above temporary transport arrangements. Members of the public are advised to stay alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.
