Quality Education Fund Steering Committee welcomes CE's Policy Address
**********************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee:

The Chairman of the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee (QEF), Mr Duffy Wong, today (January 18) welcomed the continued direction of promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and the Belt and Road Initiative in the Chief Executive's 2017 Policy Address.

"As the Chairman of the QEF, I share the Government's vision of the importance of nurturing our students to meet the changing needs of the society in the era of knowledge and technology-based economy. Our youngsters must equip themselves with sufficient knowledge and education to face the challenges in life," Mr Wong said.

"The QEF has been supporting the promotion of STEM education and the Belt and Road Initiative. Through STEM education, apart from the subject knowledge, our students can also develop their creativity and innovative ideas and this will in turn enhance their learning interest. The Belt and Road Initiative highly encourages students to learn about the history, art and culture of the relevant countries so that students may introduce the contributions that Hong Kong can make," he said.

Mr Wong added that the QEF will render full support by encouraging the education sector and stakeholders to apply for relevant QEF projects. It is envisaged that through the concerted efforts of schools and teachers, students will be well prepared to lead Hong Kong when they grow up.
