Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra to perform alongside animation in "Pictures at an Exhibition" concerts
******************************************************************************************
The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will return to the stage to perform two concerts in February aimed especially at young music lovers. The highlight of the programme is an animated version of Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition", in which a cartoon lookalike of the orchestra's Music Director, Dr Yip Wai-hong, will give a guided tour of an exhibition of paintings accompanied by live orchestral performance.

Other pieces (without animation) include Debussy's "Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune" and Pierné's "Concertstück for Harp & Orchestra, Op. 39". The orchestra performed two concerts of "Pictures at an Exhibition" in 2015, with overwhelming responses from the audience.

Hong Kong-born Andrew Ling is the concert's guest conductor. Ling is currently the principal violist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. On the conducting front, Ling has conducted the Seinäjoki City Orchestra in Finland and is also the Guest Conductor for the Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra. He has worked with some of the world's foremost conductors, including Jaap van Zweden, Edo de Wart, Leonard Slatkin and Lorin Maazel.

Melody Tam, the concert's harpist, was the first harpist from Hong Kong to win an international music competition. She attained the first prize and the Matsuo Hiroshi Award for harp in the 16th Osaka International Music Competition. Afterwards, she was invited to give a recital in Japan.

Founded by Dr Yip Wai-hong, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra aims at promoting music among the general public, and especially the young generation in Hong Kong. To achieve its goal, the orchestra has given several hundred performances over the course of 40 years. A number of internationally renowned conductors and soloists have performed with it.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Pictures at an Exhibition" - Concert by Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will be staged at 7.30pm on February 18 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall and at 3pm on February 19 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of the Yuen Long Theatre.
