Update on cluster of Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae cases in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital
******************************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients confirmed to have Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) in a Medical Ward, the spokesperson for Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) gave the following update today (January 12):

In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has performed active surveillance and more extensive contact tracing. Twelve more male patients (aged 53 to 92) have been confirmed to have CPE. Five of them have already been discharged, while the remaining seven are still hospitalised under isolation in PYNEH and Ruttonjee Hospital with stable condition.

Patients confirmed with CPE and cases under medical surveillance have been relocated to other wards for isolation to facilitate deep environmental disinfection in the Medical Ward concerned. Admission and inter-hospital transfer have been suspended in the ward. The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
