Visit by Housing Authority members to factories in Guangdong Province
***************************************************************

The quality assurance of building components and materials used in public housing manufactured off site is equally as important as quality supervision of construction works on site, said the Chairman of the Housing Authority (HA) and Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung.

"The HA takes various measures to ensure that the quality of these products is up to the required standards before they are used. These include surveillance audit, in-process inspection, product testing, delivery verification, the Performance Assessment Scoring System for contractors and third party certification," he said.

Professor Cheung today (January 7) joined the second leg of a two-day visit by members of the HA's Building Committee (BC) and Tender Committee (TC) to factories in Guangdong Province, where most public housing building products are manufactured. They inspected the manufacturing process and quality control of power cables, LED lighting and timber doorsets in factories in Dongguan and Shenzhen.

Members of the two committees yesterday (January 6) visited various factories in Shenzhen, Zhongshan and Foshan producing aluminium windows, lifts and precast concrete components.

Taking part in the visit were the TC Chairman, Mr Cheung Tat-tong; BC members Dr Lau Kwok-yu, Mr Wan Man-yee, Mr Alan Man and Ms Serena Lau; and the Deputy Director of Housing, Ms Ada Fung.
