Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

Sun Fook Kong (Civil) Limited was fined $98,000 at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court today (December 22) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Confined Spaces) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred in Kwai Chung on June 17, 2011, in which a drainage worker, while working inside an underground drainage pipe, was drowned as a result of a sudden inrush of water into the pipe.
