Transcript of remarks by SLW on MPF offsetting mechanism
********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) offsetting mechanism before attending the Legislative Council's Panel on Manpower meeting today (December 20):

Reporter: Can you help to validate the rumours regarding the cancellation of the offsetting mechanism of the MPF?

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: I am not in the position to comment on rumours and speculations, but suffice for me to say that the current-term Government is committed to finding a viable way forward on three issues. Number one is retirement protection. The second is the MPF offsetting mechanism and finally standard working hours. We are working very hard to formulate recommendations and policy direction. We expect to unveil our final recommendations and the way forward in the upcoming Policy Address scheduled for January 18 next year. So let us be patient for the time being.
