Dog Adoption Carnival to be held this weekend (with photos)

Jointly organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), Cheung Chau Animal Care, the Hong Kong Society of Herpetology Foundation, Lamma Animal Welfare Centre, Lifelong Animal Protection, Sai Kung Stray Friends, the Society for Abandoned Animals and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the event seeks to encourage people to adopt abandoned or unclaimed animals and promote responsible pet ownership.
An array of informative and entertaining activities will be held at the carnival, including celebrities sharing their experience of keeping dogs, working dog demonstrations, game booths, a dog playground, an educational exhibition, a handicraft workshop for families, dog adoption enquiries, a dog licensing service and basic vet consultation services.
Visitors will also have the chance to meet dogs that are up for adoption. Those who successfully adopt a dog at the event will be awarded a free dog training course offered by the AFCD.
Members of the public are welcome to bring their pets. All dogs admitted should be licenced, vaccinated, microchipped and kept under proper control. For details of the event, please visit www.pets.gov.hk.
The AFCD encourages members of the public who are interested in keeping a pet to adopt abandoned or surrendered animals through animal welfare organisations. Currently, abandoned pets or unclaimed animals with a friendly temperament and good health will be sent to partner animal welfare organisations for adoption. Free de-sexing operations will be offered for dogs, cats and rabbits when they are adopted.
