Vote count for Election Committee Subsector Ordinary Elections completed smoothly (with photo)

The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:
 
     The vote count for the 2016 Election Committee (EC) Subsector Ordinary Elections was completed smoothly at 2.30pm today (December 12). A total of about 107,000 ballot papers were counted after the polls closed last night (December 11).
 
     "Overall, the polling and counting processes went very smoothly. The elections were conducted in an open, fair and honest manner. The Electoral Affairs Commission is satisfied with various arrangements," the Chairman of the Commission, Mr Justice Barnabas Fung Wah, said after the announcement of all election results.
 
     The Commission thanked about 3 800 polling and counting staff and the government departments involved for their contributions to the smooth conduct of the elections. The Commission also thanked all the voters for voting, and the candidates and their agents for their co-operation, which enabled the conduct of the elections in an open, fair and honest manner.
 
     The interim register of members of the new term Election Committee will be published on December 21. According to the law, the final register will take effect on February 1, 2017.
 
     The Commission will review the electoral arrangements and submit a report on the EC Subsector Ordinary Elections and the 2017 Chief Executive Election to the Chief Executive within three months after the Chief Executive Election in March 2017 in accordance with the law.
