Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 1,215 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 58 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (November 29).

     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 334 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 1,074 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 141 for other traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,400 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to October 2016, of which 680 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 42.5 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
