Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (November 23) seized about 4 kilograms (kg) of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $4.5 million at Hong Kong International Airport.

     A male passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, yesterday afternoon. During Customs clearance, a slab of suspected cocaine with a weight of about 4kg was found concealed inside the false compartment of his check-in baggage.

     The arrested man, who is 68 years old and claimed to be retired, was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (November 25).
 
     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
