Hospital Authority's response to Director of Audit's report

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     In response to the release of the findings and recommendations of the Director of Audit's report on the drug management of the Hospital Authority (HA) today (November 23), the HA spokesperson made the following statement:
 
     The HA accepted and welcomed the Director of Audit's report on the drug management of the HA. The HA will continue to enhance the established drug management system, and consolidate guidelines to align hospital operations, with extensive application of information to reinforce monitoring.

     The HA will follow up on the recommendations in the report, and the key items are highlighted as follows:
 
  1. The HA will formulate a comprehensive guideline on the use of non-Hospital Authority Drug Formulary drugs;
     
  2. In line with the current drug procurement strategies, the HA will continue to increase bulk contract arrangements for suitable drugs;
     
  3. The HA will roll out the drug refill service to break down long-duration prescriptions and provide drug counselling to targeted patient groups; and
     
  4. The HA will continue to include appropriate new drugs under the scope of the safety net, based on safety, efficacy and cost-effectiveness considerations and other relevant factors.

      The HA will also carry out follow-up actions and implementation on other recommendations in the report.
