Government statement on judgment of oath-taking case

     In response to media enquiries on the judgment handed down on the government's legal proceedings concerning the oath-taking of Sixtus Leung Chung-hang and Yau Wai-ching, a government spokesman gave the following response today (November 15):

     "We note the Court's judgment on the construction of the relevant provisions in the Oaths and Declarations Ordinance (Cap 11) and the Legislative Council Ordinance (Cap 542) in light of Article 104 of the Basic Law.  We will consider the Interpretation of Article 104 of the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the judgment and the way forward."
