The Returning Officers (except religious subsector) received a total of 1 553 nomination forms by the close of nominations, of which 135 were submitted today.

Apart from the nominee who withdrew from the poll in the medical subsector on November 12, one nominee for the Heung Yee Kuk subsector and two nominees for the New Territories District Councils subsector submitted notices of withdrawal of candidature to the Returning Officers today.

For each subsector/sub-subsector, a poll will be held on December 11 if there is a contested election for that subsector/sub-subsector.

Six designated bodies of the religious subsector handed in nomination forms by the close of the nomination period, involving a total of 400 nominees. One designated body of the subsector handed in a nomination form today, involving a total of 320 nominees. Nominations of members representing this subsector are returned by six designated bodies.

A full list of the validly nominated candidates for the election will be published in the Gazette after the Returning Officers have validated and confirmed the eligibility of candidature of the nominees.

The Electoral Affairs Commission will hold two briefing sessions for candidates on November 17 and 18 at the Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre.

The Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Barnabas Fung Wah, will chair the briefing sessions and brief candidates on general electoral arrangements and on important points to note in running their election campaigns. Representatives from the Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Hongkong Post will also be present.
