Tsukiji·Yamataka Seafood Market, the Hong Kong version of the Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo, officially opened today (November 14) at Wan Chai Ferry Pier, offering an authentic Japanese seafood marketplace experience and a new tourist attraction in Hong Kong.

The new seafood market occupies 11 000 square feet and overlooks Victoria Harbour. It provides fresh seafood flown in from Tsukiji daily as well as seasonal produce from all around the world, according to its Managing Director, Mr Branden Tong.

He said, "Yamataka has been supplying seafood to overseas markets for many years and it is time for us to expand our business. Hong Kong is the culinary capital of Asia and people here are passionate about Japanese food. Moreover, the location at Wan Chai Ferry Pier is spacious and perfect for showcasing a Tsukiji seafood market in the city.

"By sharing the success of our operations at the Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo, including live tuna-cutting demonstration, fresh seafood dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients, and wholesale and retail services, we hope to deliver good food, dining experiences and ambience on par with those of Tsukiji in Japan," he added.

The Acting Director-General of Investment Promotion, Dr Jimmy Chiang, was excited about the opening of Tsukiji·Yamataka Seafood Market in Hong Kong. He said, "Tsukiji is such a famous brand that almost everyone in Hong Kong has heard of it. We are very happy to see it coming to Hong Kong, which is a testament to our city's appeal as an international tourist destination. I wish Tsukiji·Yamataka Seafood Market every success in Hong Kong."
