SED to attend founding ceremony of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance in Guangzhou

     The Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, will go to Guangzhou tomorrow (November 15) to attend the founding ceremony of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance (GHMA).

     The founding ceremony will be held at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. Mr Ng and education officials from the Mainland and Macau will address the ceremony, as well as witness the establishment of the GHMA, which will comprise 26 higher education institutions from Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macau. The GHMA will strengthen co-operation between the participating institutions in areas such as teaching, research and technology transfer, and student exchange.

     Among the first batch of participating institutions of the GHMA, nine are from Hong Kong, 10 are from Guangdong and seven are from Macau. The participating institutions from Hong Kong are City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Open University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong.

     Mr Ng will be accompanied by the Principal Assistant Secretary for Education (Higher Education), Ms Sharon Ko, in attending the ceremony. They will return to Hong Kong in the evening on the same day.
