The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, (London ETO) took part in the City of London Lord Mayor's Show yesterday (November 12, London time) for the 12th year with a float highlighting a different side of Hong Kong: its stunning natural features, beautiful countryside and unique hiking experiences.

The London ETO's float presented some of the attractions that await just outside the urban areas of Hong Kong: the famous Dragon’s Back hiking trail, the fascinating rock structures of the Hong Kong Geopark, the Hong Kong Wetland park, and the giant Tian Tan Buddha on Lantau Island. It also featured a dragon dance troupe and traditional Chinese drummers.

The annual Lord Mayor's Show celebrates the swearing-in of the new Lord Mayor of London, who serves as a global ambassador for the United Kingdom's financial services sector. This year, Alderman Andrew Parmley became the 689th Lord Mayor of the City of London. More than half a million people take to the streets to see the parade each year, while the BBC broadcasts it live to millions of people in Britain and globally.

Director-General of the London ETO, Ms Priscilla To, whose office devised and organised Hong Kong's float, said, "We congratulate the new Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Parmley, and look forward to working with him over the coming year. Our float in this year's Lord Mayor's Show took the theme 'Step outside the City’, promoting Hong Kong's picturesque country parks and open spaces."

Ms To added, "Everybody knows about Hong Kong, the busy, vibrant city, with its tall buildings and bustling urban lifestyle. But take some time to step outside the city and there is a different world waiting: beautiful countryside, stunning greenery, hundreds of small islands and fishing villages. About three quarters of Hong Kong is countryside. So our float aimed to showcase this very special side of Hong Kong."

London ETO has been taking part in the Lord Mayor's Show since 2005, with colourful and exciting displays highlighting the city's cultural heritage, including Cantonese opera, Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree and Cheung Chau Bun Festival, comic and animation characters from Hong Kong, kung fu movies, and in 2015, Hong Kong’s unique maritime heritage.
