Creative energy-saving ideas commended at Youth Energy Saving Award Prize Presentation Ceremony (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The Youth Energy Saving Award Prize Presentation Ceremony cum Study Mission Sharing Session was held today (November 12) to commend creative youth ideas that promote energy-saving measures and the use of renewable energy.

Part of the "Energy Saving for All" Campaign organised by the Environment Bureau and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, the Youth Energy Saving Award competition was divided into a primary school category, a secondary school category and an open category for tertiary students and young people aged 25 or below. It received an overwhelming response, with more than 250 participating teams.

The aims of the competition were to enhance the younger generation's understanding of the importance of energy saving and how to reduce carbon emissions in daily life, and to encourage them to put energy saving into practice to help develop Hong Kong into a low carbon and liveable city.

Participants were required to form a 10-member team and propose energy-saving measures for their households or organisations as well as innovative and effective ways to promote renewable energy and energy-saving measures to the public. The judging panel selected 10 winning teams under each category according to the assessment criteria that included the practicality of the participating teams' energy-saving principles and proposals, the electricity-saving percentage of their households or organisations, and their organisational and planning abilities. The competition offered one Platinum, two Gold, two Silver and five Bronze awards under each category. Each winning team was granted a cash reward for donation to a non-governmental organisation nominated by them for providing youth services, helping spread a caring culture in the community.

Moreover, the Platinum award winning teams under the secondary school category and the open category were arranged to join a low-carbon city study mission to Malmo, Sweden, and Copenhagen, Denmark, in August this year to learn about the energy-saving technologies and related measures in these cities. As for the Platinum award winning team under the primary school category, a local study camp on energy saving and environmental protection was arranged for the members in July this year. All these teams shared their learning outcomes at the event today.
