The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, and the Commissioner for Labour cum ex-officio chairman of the LAB, Mr Carlson Chan, congratulated the elected employee representatives.

"The LAB is the most representative tripartite consultative body on labour matters. Since it became a tripartite platform 70 years ago, the LAB has provided an effective platform which enables employees, employers and the Government to discuss and build up consensus on a wide range of labour issues. The LAB has assisted the Government to formulate labour policies and legislation that can fully take into account and balance the interests of both employees and employers. Building on this solid foundation, I trust that members of the new term will continue to foster harmonious labour relations," Mr Cheung said.

Mr Chan said that the LAB has been proactively offering constructive and invaluable advice on labour matters to the Government. He looked forward to working closely with all members of the LAB in the new term to address issues of concern to employees and employers.

For today's election, eight candidate nominations were received. Representatives from 388 registered employee unions turned up to vote.
