The Statistics Advisory Board held a meeting today (November 8) to discuss official statistics work and its recent developments.

     At the meeting, members were updated on the latest progress of the 2016 Population By-census (16BC) and provided views and suggestions on the data dissemination plan of 16BC.

     The Commissioner for Census and Statistics and Chairman of the Statistics Advisory Board, Mr Leslie Tang, said, "Plan is in hand to disseminate the key results of 16BC in the first quarter of 2017 and more detailed results in phases afterwards. Following a user-centric approach, the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) will provide a wide range of statistical products and services to cater for the specific needs of both general users and sophisticated users."

     Members were also briefed on the statistical support rendered to the Labour Department and the Economic Analysis and Business Facilitation Unit by the C&SD in regard to the study of working hours issues. The statistical support provided helps to promote informed and in-depth discussion in the community on relevant issues.

     Members also discussed issues related to the assessment of the economic contribution of sports and related activities in Hong Kong.

     The Statistics Advisory Board is a non-statutory advisory body which advises the Commissioner for Census and Statistics on matters pertaining to government statistical work. Its membership consists of established professionals of the business sector, academia and the community, which provides for a wide representation to assist the Commissioner in integrating views of data users, data suppliers and statisticians.
