Appointments to Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Advisory Committee and Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Appeal Board

     The Government announced in the Gazette today (October 28) appointments to the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Advisory Committee (MPFSAC) and the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Appeal Board (MPFSAB).
 
     The Chief Executive, in exercise of his authority under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (Cap. 485) (MPFSO), has re-appointed Mr Wong Ting-kwong as the Chairman of the MPFSAC for a term of two years, from November 1, 2016, until October 31, 2018, both dates inclusive.
 
     At the same time, the Financial Secretary, in exercise of the authority under the MPFSO delegated to him by the Chief Executive, has appointed Mr Stewart Wong Kai-ming, SC, as the Chairman of the MPFSAB and re-appointed four incumbent members, namely Ms Belinda Luk Kwai-sim, Mr Ng Chau-pei, Ms Ng Wai-yee and Mr Jeff Wong Kwan-kit, for a term of two years, from November 1, 2016, until October 31, 2018, both dates inclusive.
 
     The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, welcomed the re-appointment of Mr Wong Ting-kwong. He said, "Mr Wong has been the Chairman of the MPFSAC since 2012 and has provided valuable advice to the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) on the various aspects of the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) System and its operation. I trust that under his capable leadership, the MPFSAC will continue to discharge its functions in rendering advice to the MPFA for further improving the MPF System."
 
     Professor Chan also welcomed the appointment and re-appointments to the MPFSAB. He said, "Mr Stewart Wong is a Senior Counsel with a practice encompassing all areas of civil law, as well as tax and public law, and has been appointed as a Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court since 2015. I believe that the MPFSAB will continue to uphold its impartiality under Mr Wong's chairmanship. I am also confident that the re-appointed members will continue to contribute to the effective operation of the MPFSAB."
 
     Professor Chan also expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Chairman, Mr William Duncan Stone, for his valuable contributions in the past two years.
 
     The MPFSAC is a statutory committee established under section 6R of the MPFSO, tasked to advise the MPFA with respect to the operation of the MPFSO and the effectiveness and efficiency of the MPFA.

     The MPFSAB was established in accordance with section 35 of the MPFSO to determine appeals against the decisions of the MPFA as specified in Schedule 6 to the MPFSO.
