Labour Department holds media session on YETP micro-movie "Seize the Second" (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The Labour Department held a media session on the micro-movie "Seize the Second" today (October 26). Jointly produced by the Youth Employment and Training Programme (YETP) and Radio 2 of Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), the micro-movie features the encouraging stories of four YETP trainees. Performers in the micro-movie include artistes and singers, RTHK DJs, YETP trainees and RTHK Solar Ambassadors. The Micro Movie Premiere will be held at the sky cinema at Olympian City, Kowloon, in the afternoon on November 26 (Saturday).

The media session was officiated by the Commissioner for Labour, Mr Carlson Chan. Also attending the event were the Acting Controller (Radio) of RTHK, Mr Fung Wai-tong; the director of the micro-movie, Joey Leung; artistes Phil Lam, Regen Cheung and Jonathan Wong; and RTHK DJs.

Speaking at the session, Mr Chan encouraged young people to overcome challenges. "With the concerted efforts of employers, training bodies and the Government, YETP provides a comprehensive platform for job search with one-stop and diversified training and employment support services for youngsters. It enables young people to better understand themselves and their work aptitudes while enriching their job skills and experience to enhance employability," he said. Mr Chan expressed the hope that more youngsters would be inspired by the micro-movie to face difficulties with courage and map out their career paths.

The director and main artistes attending the session introduced the storyline and shared their experience in playing the roles of YETP trainees. The four young people featured in the micro-movie are Ms Silky Tang, an Aircraft Maintenance Approved Technician in an aircraft engineering company; Mr Stephen To, the Centre-in-charge of a social welfare organisation; Mr Ryan Lee, promoting green and sustainable living; and Mr Brian Lam, Assistant Manager of a Germany-based company located in Hong Kong. They all identified their career paths through the on-the-job training of the YETP. With encouragement and guidance from their employers and service providers, as well as their perseverance to overcome challenges at work, they were able to fly high for a bright future.

The micro-movie will be screened in Cantonese. Members of the public who would like to obtain free tickets to see the movie may follow the news in the YETP Facebook page or call 2835 2109 for enquiries.

Enrolment for the YETP is open to young school leavers aged 15 to 24 with educational attainment at sub-degree level or below year-round and free. For details, please visit the website of the Youth Employment Services of the Labour Department at www.yes.labour.gov.hk. The Labour Department has also set up a Youth Employment Services hotline, 2112 9932, to provide a one-stop enquiry service on the programme and receive training vacancies from employers.
