Public urged not to consume a kind of breakfast cereal for young children suspected to contain metal wires

     The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (October 25) urged the public not to consume a kind of  breakfast cereal for young children manufactured in Hungary as it might contain metal wires.  Follow-up is in progress.

     "The CFS received a notification from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) of the European Commission that four batches of a kind of breakfast cereal for young children manufactured in Hungary was suspected to contain metal wires . According to the information provided by the RASFF, the manufacturer concerned has initiated a recall and certain affected product has been imported into Hong Kong," a spokesman for the CFS said.

     Product details as follows:

Product name:  HiPP Kinder Frühstücks-Ringe
Manufacturer: Bionly Kft.
Country of origin: Hungary
Weight: 140 grams per pack (Each pack contains 2 small packs of 70g each)
Batch codes: L190416 / L020616/ L200417 / L030616
Best before dates:  From January 19, 2017 to March 7, 2017

     The spokesman said that based on the information provided by the RASFF, the CFS has followed up with the importer/retailer: Hong Yuen Global International Limited, concerned and learned that a total of 120 packs of the affected product (Batch code: L030616; Best before date: March 7, 2017) had been imported to Hong Kong.   Among them, 22 packs have been sold and the remaining 98 packs have been removed from shelves for disposal.  The importer has also initiated a recall.  Members of the public may call the importer's hotline at 3481 0880 during office hours for enquiries about the recall.

     The CFS will alert the trade to the incident and will continue to closely monitor the case and take appropriate follow-up action. Investigation is ongoing.
