Fireboat Alexander Grantham Exhibition Gallery to hold fun day this Sunday

The ship's wheelhouse and engine room will be specially open to the public and former firefighters will share their experiences of working on the fireboat. There will also be "Be a Firefighter" photo-taking sessions, firefighting equipment demonstrations, a fireboat water spray performance and a live rock 'n' roll band performance by firefighters.
Also this year, conservators responsible for the fireboat’s conservation work will host interesting activities and show scientific experiments to introduce the public to the kind of work involved in looking after the fireboat.
The Fireboat Alexander Grantham went into service in 1953. Before being decommissioned in 2002, it served as the flagship of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department's fireboat team, responding to fire alarms and conducting rescue operations both in Hong Kong waters and along the nearby coastline. As well as being the first boat preserved as an historical relic in Hong Kong, it is also the largest "Made in Hong Kong" item in the Hong Kong Museum of History's collection.
The fireboat water spray performance is scheduled for 2pm but is subject to cancellation if there are emergency firefighting or rescue operations.
The fun day, jointly organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Fire Services Department, will be open from 10am to 6pm. Programmes will be conducted in Cantonese. Admission is free.
