Goods vehicles safety enforcement operation starts
**************************************************
The Police will hold a territory-wide operation starting from tomorrow (October 21) to October 24 to encourage safe driving among goods vehicles drivers.

During the operation, Police will take stringent enforcement actions against goods vehicles related offences to raise the awareness on road safety.

From January to August 2016, there were 2,251 traffic accidents involving goods vehicles, causing 3,108 casualties and 28 fatalities. Comparing with the same period last year, the number of traffic accidents and casualties increased by 143 and 80 respectively.

Police spokesman said that the main contributory factors to the accidents were driving inattentively, driving too close to the vehicle in front, careless lane changing, improper or illegal turn, and reversing negligently.

The Police reminded members of the public that traffic accidents can be fatal. Goods vehicles drivers are urged to obey road traffic regulations and pay attention to road safety.
