******************************************************************************************
With the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels (HKETO, Brussels), Hong Kong cinema is well represented again this year at the Sitges 2016 - 49th International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia taking place in Sitges, near Barcelona in Spain from October 7 to 16.

Speaking at a reception hosted by the HKETO, Brussels, on October 9 (Spanish time), the Deputy Representative of HKETO, Brussels, Mr Sam Hui, said that Hong Kong's film entertainment industry had a long history and was one of the most dynamic in the world. Last year, 59 Hong Kong films were released in the city.

"The selection of Hong Kong films at this year's festival includes the work of both confirmed directors and newcomers from our city's vibrant movie scene", he said, adding that Hong Kong is not only good at making movies, but its unique cityscape also provides stunning settings for foreign productions.

"Hong Kong can provide a full range of services in location filming, film facilitation and post-production up to international standards, " he said.

In one of the Hong Kong highlights of the festival, acclaimed film director Dante Lam visited Sitges to present his latest movie, "Operation Mekong” on October 9. The high-voltage thriller, inspired by true events, is among the festival’s "Òrbita" selection, and is in competition for a best feature film award to be presented by a jury formed by members of the audience.

Stephen Chow's "The Mermaid", the biggest box office hit in the history of Chinese film, will be screened twice on October 15 as part of the Sitges Official Fantàstic selection.

Johnnie To's latest thriller as a director, "Three" (to be screened on October 13 and 14), and his production "Trivisa" (screened on October 9 and 11), directed by a trio of new Hong Kong talent, namely Frank Hui, Jevons Au and Vicky Wong, are also part of the festival's "Òrbita" selection.

Spanish audiences will also be able to see Ferris Lin's documentary, "The Weaving of a Dream: Johnnie To's Vision & Craft" on October 13. The documentary gives an insight into the film director's creative and work processes during the shooting of "Three".

Founded in 1968, the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia is the leading fantasy film festival in the world. The Sitges Official Fantàstic Selection brings together the best selection of fantastic and horror genre films, and is intended to highlight the most important trends of the year. This selection is accompanied by Òrbita, a sample of films closely related to the fantastic genre, including action and adventure movies and black comedy, with a special emphasis on thrillers.
