Hong Kong Customs detects suspected smartphone and computer central processing unit smuggling case at Lok Ma Chau Control Point (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (October 5) detected a suspected smuggling case at Lok Ma Chau Control Point and seized 152 unmanifested smartphones and 150 unmanifested computer central processing units (CPUs) with a total value of about $570,000.
 
     Customs officers intercepted an outgoing container truck at Lok Ma Chau Control Point yesterday evening. A total of 152 unmanifested smartphones and 150 unmanifested CPUs were found inside the driving compartment of the container truck. The 47-year-old male driver was arrested. He will be charged with attempting to export unmanifested cargo and will appear at Fanling Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (October 7).
 
     Under the Import and Export Ordinance, it is an offence for any person to attempt to export unmanifested cargo. The maximum penalty is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
