Candidate nomination for 2016 HKADC Nomination Exercise to commence tomorrow
****************************************************************************
A two-week candidate nomination period under the 2016 exercise for nomination of arts interests representatives for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) (the 2016 Nomination Exercise) will commence tomorrow (October 7). The Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) encourages arts practitioners who wish to seek candidature to submit their applications as soon as possible.

The HKADC was established to promote the development of arts in Hong Kong. The term of office of its current members, including representatives of 10 arts interests, will expire on December 31, 2016. The HAB is conducting an exercise to nominate arts interests representatives for the Chief Executive's consideration for appointment as members of the HKADC for the next term.

The voter registration of the 2016 Nomination Exercise has been completed, with a total of 5 864 registered voters recorded. A spokesperson for the HAB said today (October 6), "We hope that the arts community will continue to take an active role in the subsequent phases of the exercise. Candidate nomination for the exercise will start tomorrow and we urge those who aspire to represent their respective interests to participate in the work of the HKADC to seek candidature."

The two-week candidate nomination period will run from tomorrow to 5pm on October 21. A prospective candidate has to be a registered voter of the particular arts interest for which he or she is standing as a candidate, and nominated by at least five subscribers, or 1 per cent of the total number of registered voters in the same arts interest (whichever is higher). A subscriber must be a registered voter of the same arts interest as the prospective candidate and may nominate only one candidate in this Nomination Exercise. The number of subscribers required for each of the 10 arts interests is as follows:

Applicants seeking candidature should submit completed forms together with all the required supporting documents to Instinctif Partners (Hong Kong) Limited - the nomination agent appointed by the HAB - in person or by their authorised persons before the deadline. Applications submitted by post, fax or email will not be accepted.

There will be a five-week electioneering period for the candidates after the close of the candidate nomination phase. The Nomination Agent will organise a candidate forum on November 5 and 6 for candidates to present their platforms and address the voters. Polling is scheduled for November 27 and 28. Details of the candidate forum and polling will be announced later.

Registered voters will receive from the Nomination Agent the voter notification letters and candidate application forms.
