Temporary traffic arrangement at Lion Rock Tunnel on Kowloon-bound side this Saturday
*************************************************************************************
The Transport Department (TD) today (October 5) reminded members of the public that to facilitate road repair work at the Kowloon exit of the Lion Rock Tunnel, the fast lane of the tunnel from its toll plaza to the Kowloon exit will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 10pm on October 8 (Saturday) to 4pm on October 10 (Monday) during the Chung Yeung long holidays.

Subsequent to the completion of emergency road repair works for more seriously damaged road surfaces at the Kowloon exit of the Lion Rock Tunnel, the Highways Department (HyD) will arrange road repair work at two of the less damaged locations at the Kowloon exit of the tunnel during the Chung Yeung long holidays to expedite the works progress.

The TD reminded members of the public that the road closure period will be longer this time and extended to 4pm next Monday (October 10).  Due to the road closure, the TD anticipates that Kowloon-bound traffic at the Lion Rock Tunnel will become congested. Motorists are advised to consider using alternative routes such as Route 8 (Tsing Sha Highway), the Shing Mun Tunnels, Tai Po Road or the Tate's Cairn Tunnel to Kowloon. Motorists should exercise tolerance and patience when passing through the affected road sections. Appropriate traffic signs will be erected on-site to guide motorists.

The TD reminded commuters taking public transport services to use railway services or bus services via Route 8 (Tsing Sha Highway), the Shing Mun Tunnels, Tai Po Road or the Tate's Cairn Tunnel to Kowloon. They are also advised to plan their journey in advance and allow more travelling time to avoid delay.

The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to stay alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.

As for the road repair works at the remaining less damaged road surfaces at the Kowloon exit of the Lion Rock Tunnel, the HyD will arrange repair works at a suitable time. The TD will make advance announcement to inform motorists of the temporary traffic arrangement accordingly.
