******************************************************************************************
Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) hosted a seminar in Kuala Lumpur today (October 5), encouraging local companies to leverage Hong Kong's business opportunities as well as the advantages of the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) to enter the Mainland market via the city.

The seminar, entitled "Hong Kong: Where Business Goes to Grow", was organised by InvestHK and co-organised by the Trade and Industry Department and Malaysia's Ministry of International Trade and Industry. Other supporting organisations included the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce and the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute.

Addressing the audience from leading companies in various sectors, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK Dr Jimmy Chiang highlighted the business opportunities Hong Kong has to offer for Malaysian companies looking to enter the Mainland market.

Dr Chiang said, "As Malaysia is one of the countries along the Belt and Road routes, its investors should take advantage of Hong Kong’s strategic location and its role as a 'super-connector' between Mainland China and the rest of the world to enter the Mainland market. Malaysian companies can benefit from CEPA by setting up or expanding in Hong Kong."

He explained that Hong Kong has an independent judiciary and rule of law, a low and simple tax system, free flow of capital and information, a workforce with international and Mainland perspectives, and a level playing field. All these make the city the perfect platform for Malaysian companies to get access to the Mainland market.

Other speakers included Trade Officer, Trade and Industry Department, Miss May Lok; the General Manager, Business Strategy & Management, Global & Wholesale, Telekom Malaysia, Ms Khairul Liza Ibrahim; and the Regional Director, Southeast Asia and India (Designate), Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Mr Peter Wong. They provided the latest information on CEPA and the Hong Kong business environment as well as practical tips on capitalising on CEPA to enter the Mainland market.
