Police open fire in Yau Ma Tei

     Police are investigating a police open fire case in Yau Ma Tei this morning (October 2).

     At about 6am, Police officers found about five to six Non-Ethnic Chinese (NEC) men, some of them armed with knives, chasing after a 33-year-old NEC man while patrolling at the junction of Parkes Street and Ning Po Street. Two of them continued attacking the man at the junction of Parkes Street and Nanking Street. After giving verbal warnings to both men but in vain, two male police constables fired four shots in total at the NEC men aged 25 and 23.

     The 25-year-old man sustained shot wounds to his waist and leg, while the 23-year-old man sustained shot wounds to his arm. Both were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in conscious state. They were arrested for wounding and are being detained for further enquiries.

     The 33-year-old man sustained chop wounds to his head, back and leg, and he was sent to Kwong Wah Hospital in conscious state.

     Investigations by the Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon West Region are underway. Anyone who witnessed the case or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 3661 8282.
