SED to attend APEC Education Ministerial Meeting in Peru

     The Secretary for Education (SED), Mr Eddie Ng, will leave Hong Kong this Sunday (October 2) for the 6th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Education Ministerial Meeting (AEMM) in Lima, Peru, to promote Hong Kong as a regional education hub and strengthen its collaboration with APEC economies. On his return trip, he will take the opportunity to stop over in California, the United States (US), to exchange views on e-learning and innovation education with information technology personnel in Silicon Valley and meet with Hong Kong students studying in local universities.
      
     After arriving in Lima on October 3, Mr Ng will visit Ricardo Palma University, where he will meet and exchange views with its management and students, including students from Mainland China and Peruvian students who have studied in Mainland China before.
      
     On October 4 to 6, Mr Ng will attend the 6th AEMM and give a thematic presentation on the latest developments of education in Hong Kong, in particular the initiatives of applied learning and business-school partnership as well as career and life planning education to facilitate students' transition from education to work. He will also attend a series of bilateral meetings with education ministers of the APEC economies to strengthen ties and promote the role of Hong Kong as a regional education hub in Asia.
      
     On October 7, Mr Ng will fly to San Francisco, where he will visit the Microsoft Technology Center in Silicon Valley and meet with its management to learn about the new developments of e-learning and innovation education. He will also attend a gathering with some Hong Kong students and alumni of top universities in California.
      
     Accompanying Mr Ng on his visit to Peru and the US will be the Administrative Assistant to the SED, Mr Edward Yu, and the Principal Education Officer (Quality Assurance and School-based Support), Miss Lau Kar-shin. They will all return to Hong Kong on October 9.
      
     During Mr Ng's absence, the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, will be the Acting SED.
