Hiking is a popular pastime and is good for the body and the soul. The breathtaking landscape of the countryside provides respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, and enjoyment of the tranquillity and beauty of nature. Hong Kong boasts many unique hiking routes, offering hikers a diverse range of green experiences. Hongkong Post is issuing the "Hong Kong Hiking Trails Series" to enhance public understanding of the local hiking trails.

This first issue of the "Hong Kong Hiking Trails Series" features the 70-kilometre Lantau Trail on Lantau Island. The trail, which comprises a dozen sections running through the Lantau Country Parks, offers some of the best spots for admiring the sunrise and cloudscapes. Each of the 12 stamps in this stamp issue features a section of the Lantau Trail. The stamps are printed in high-resolution lithography to bring out the exquisite beauty of the scenery along the Lantau Trail.

The souvenir sheet contains a full set of the 12 stamps set against an outline map of Lantau Island with the Lantau Trail marked on it. Apart from gummed mint stamps and a gummed souvenir sheet, a self-adhesive stamp booklet containing the entire set of stamps is also available.

Official First Day Covers will be on sale at $1.20 each at all post offices from tomorrow (September 29). The stamps and the associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office from the same day. To complement this stamp theme, the stamps and the associated philatelic products will also be displayed at Discovery Bay Post Office, Mui Wo Post Office, Tai O Post Office and Tung Chung Post Office, all located on Lantau Island, from the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from tomorrow to October 5.
