HK Film Archive to screen restored film "Wedding Bells for Hedy" to echo World Day for Audiovisual Heritage (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
In support of World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, the Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present a special programme of "Early Treasures" by screening "Wedding Bells for Hedy" (1959) at the Cinema of the HKFA at 2.30pm on October 23 (Sunday), starring Julie Yeh Feng, Jeanette Lin Tsui, Dolly Soo Fung, Mu Hong, and Wang Yuen-lung.

Audio-visual materials such as moving images, films and audio records play an important part in cultural heritage. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation designated October 27 of every year as World Day for Audiovisual Heritage in 2005 to raise public awareness of conserving audio-visual documents as an integral part of national identity.

This year’s screening will show an incomplete version of "Wedding Bells for Hedy", which is a 35mm print copy acquired by HKFA from the Cathay Organisation in Singapore in 2004. The missing seventh and eighth reels of the copy amount to about 20 minutes of visuals which are reconstructed along with the images on the 16mm film taken with a high-resolution digital camera and four sets of pictorial storyline created with brief textual descriptions.

"Wedding Bells for Hedy" is the sequel to "Our Sister Hedy" (1957). The film follows Third Sis (Jeanette Lin Tsui), who remains unmarried while Big Sis (Mu Hong), Second Sis (Julie Yeh Feng) and Little Sis (Dolly Soo Fung) are all happily married. Director Doe Ching exposes the myth of marital bliss by examining in minute detail the daily life of the four sisters. Sparks fly and tempers flare when their opposing temperaments and likes and dislikes collide in witty, barbed dialogues. Although this is an incomplete version, the audience can still relive the glory days of Eastman Colour.

The film is in Mandarin with Chinese and English subtitles.
