CE's Office responds to media enquiries
***************************************
Apple Daily today (September 17) reported that they have obtained an internal government document which stated that the Government has set up a taskforce under the chairmanship of the Chief Executive for the development of Wang Chau. They also reported that the authorities carried out two rounds of “soft lobbying” with community leaders in 2013 and the Housing Department subsequently indicated that the community leaders generally supported the first-phase development in building 4,000 public housing units but not the second and third phases unless the Government revisits the re-provisioning policy for open storage areas.

In response to media enquiries on the news report, a spokesperson for the Chief Executive’s Office said, "The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, has never discussed the issue with individuals not in the Government.

Apple Daily reported that, as revealed by the document, the Government carried out 'soft-lobbying' for the first time in July 2013 with the rural sector; and in August the same year, the Chairman of the Ping Shan Rural Committee, Mr Tsang Shu-wo, who operates carparks in Wang Chau, led the community to give high-profile support to the Chief Executive at a district forum. The Chief Executive expressed deep regret over these allegations which are totally fabricated and unfounded."
