FS meets leaders of Kazakhstan Government in Astana (with photos)

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, and the Hong Kong business delegation today (September 15) conduct the third day of their visit in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan.

     Mr Tsang started his day by meeting the students of the Nazarbayev University. He shared with them the three key factors contributing to Hong Kong's sustained achievement as an international commercial, trade and financial centre, namely the rule of law, human capital and the free and fair market in Hong Kong.

     Mr Tsang later met respectively with the President of Kazakhstan, Mr Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev, and the Prime Minister, Mr Bakytzhan Sagintayev. Mr Tsang pointed out that both Kazakhstan and Hong Kong possess excellent location, while Kazakhstan is the hub connecting Asia with Europe, Hong Kong has been the gateway entering China market. On the other hand, Kazakhstan is a resource-rich nation whereas Hong Kong is an economy that offers world-class professional services. Both sides hope to complement each other's strengths through enhanced co-operation.

     In the evening, Mr Tsang and the business mission transferred to Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan, to continue their visit.

     They attended a dinner hosted by the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Almaty, Mr Zhang Wei.

     Tomorrow (September 16) in Almaty, Mr Tsang and the delegation will meet with the senior management of the National Bank of Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange. He will also speak at a business luncheon organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
