CE congratulates Hong Kong team on winning first Rio Paralympic Games medals

     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (September 12) congratulated the Hong Kong delegation on winning its first two medals in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, comprising one gold and one bronze.

     Swimmer Tang Wai-lok won gold in the men's S14 200m freestyle final event. This is the first time that Hong Kong has won a gold medal in a swimming event in the Paralympic Games. Table-tennis player Ng Mui-wui won bronze in the women's singles TT11 event, which was the first medal the Hong Kong delegation scored in the Games.

     Mr Leung said, "The exceptional performances by the athletes fully demonstrated their perseverance and determination to strive for the best. We are all very proud of their achievements."

     The Acting Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui, also extended congratulations to the two athletes. She encouraged the Hong Kong team to strive for more good results and continue to pursue excellence in the upcoming events.
