*********************************************************
In response to a public meeting held by an organisation on the intimidation against Mr Eddie Chu, a member-elect of the Legislative Council, a Government spokesman stressed that the Government would not tolerate any intimidation against the personal safety of Hong Kong citizens.

“The Government is very concerned and attached great importance to Mr Chu’s case. Appropriate measures and arrangements have been taken to ensure the personal safety of Mr Chu and his family. Police have been conducting an extensive and active investigation into the case and they are determined to maintain law and order as well as safeguard public safety,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman stressed, “Hong Kong, as a society that upholds the rule of law, will not accept any person being subject to threats due to his remarks or stance on community affairs. The Government will spare no effort in taking resolute actions against any illegal acts.”
