Temporary traffic arrangement at Lion Rock Tunnel on Kowloon-bound side this Saturday
*************************************************************************************
The Transport Department (TD) today (September 7) reminded members of the public that to facilitate road repair work at the Kowloon exit of the Lion Rock Tunnel, the slow lane of the tunnel from its toll plaza to the Kowloon exit will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 10pm on September 10 (Saturday) to 4am on September 12 (Monday).

Subsequent to the temporary traffic arrangements on August 20 and August 27, this is the third arrangement at the Lion Rock Tunnel to facilitate the Highways Department (HyD)'s emergency road repair work for more seriously damaged road surfaces at the Kowloon exit. Meanwhile, the HyD will also carry out repair work at a section of the road surface on the slow lane to be closed near the toll plaza of the Lion Rock Tunnel. The road repair work at that location will not cause an additional impact on traffic.

Due to the road closure, the TD anticipates that Kowloon-bound traffic at the Lion Rock Tunnel will become congested. Motorists are advised to consider using alternative routes such as Route 8 (Tsing Sha Highway), the Shing Mun Tunnels, Tai Po Road or the Tate's Cairn Tunnel to Kowloon. Motorists should exercise tolerance and patience when passing through the affected road sections. Appropriate traffic signs will be erected on-site to guide motorists.

The TD reminded commuters taking public transport services to use railway services or bus services via Route 8 (Tsing Sha Highway), the Shing Mun Tunnels, Tai Po Road or the Tate's Cairn Tunnel to Kowloon. They are also advised to plan their journey in advance and allow more travelling time to avoid delay.

The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to stay alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.

As for the road repair works at other less damaged locations at the Kowloon exit of the Lion Rock Tunnel, the HyD will arrange repair works at a suitable time. The TD will make advance announcement to inform motorists of the temporary traffic arrangement accordingly.
