*********************************************************************
The first phase of the redevelopment of So Uk Estate at Sham Shui Po has been completed. The six domestic blocks will start intake in late September 2016.

The six domestic blocks, with names inherited from the old estate - Orchid House, Marigold House, Peony House, Cedar House, Willow House and Cherry House - are of 22 to 29 storeys high, providing a total of 2 917 public rental housing (PRH) units for about 7 600 residents.

Recreational facilities including outdoor play equipment, two badminton courts and a basketball court, will all be open for residents' use at the same time.

A seven-storey welfare and community block, So Uk Amenity and Community Building, and a lift tower together with a covered footbridge have also been completed. There will be a special child care centre-cum-early education and training centre, a care and attention home for severely disabled persons and a small group home in the welfare and community block. These premises will be handed over in stages to the tenants for fitting-out works.

Four building structures of the former estate, namely a pergola with mural ceiling paintings, a little white shed, a stone building of the former estate management office and the ground and first floors of the former Maple House have been retained for conservation and retail purposes.

The remaining eight domestic blocks of the So Uk Estate Redevelopment are still under construction. Camellia House is scheduled for completion by 2017/2018 and the other seven blocks, namely Lotus House, Lily House, Larkspur House, Gladiolus House, Carnation House, Azalea House and Begonia House, together with a two-storey neighbourhood shopping centre, are scheduled for completion by 2018/2019. Upon completion of the whole So Uk Estate redevelopment, a total of 6 985 PRH units will be provided for about 19 500 residents.
