Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine (with photos)

On August 6, Customs officers inspected an air mail parcel arriving from Panama at the Air Mail Centre, Hong Kong International Airport. Upon examination, about 420 grams of suspected cocaine were found concealed within the insulation layer of a thermos bottle. During subsequent follow-up investigation, Customs officers arrested two men, aged 30 and 38, suspected in connection with the case in Sham Shui Po yesterday (August 29).
One of the men was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (August 31). The other man was put on bail pending further investigation.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
