"Meet-the-Authors" talks to be held at public libraries
*******************************************************
A new round of nine talks in the "Meet-the-Authors" series, organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be held from September to November. Various authors will share with readers their success stories and together explore life’s ups and downs under this year’s theme, "Up Against Competition‧Celebrate Your Path in Life".

The talks, to be held at various public libraries, are subdivided into three series, namely "Compete Yourself", "Cope with Change" and "Fly Up to the Sky". All the talks will be conducted in Cantonese and admission is free. Young people, students and other interested parties are invited to attend.

“Compete Yourself” series
On the competitive playing field, not only do the players try to achieve great results but also challenge themselves to improve. On October 29, Associate Professor of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dr Simon Yeung, will share his thoughts on long-distance running and the evolution of the sport, while on November 5 senior trainer of neuro-linguistic programming, Mr Emerson Lai, will talk about how to develop one’s direction in life through the sport of orienteering, along with other examples.

"Cope with Change" series
As there are always ups and downs in life, everyone should prepare themselves to cope with the ever-changing environment. On September 10, chief consultant of business management Mr Paul Cheng will analyse the difficulties faced by small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as how they can “sail upstream”; on October 8 the chief editor of a web-based tourism platform, Mr Frederick Lam, will suggest how a traveller can enjoy a more interesting journey during a long trip; and on October 15, Professor of Accounting of Centennial College, Dr Yau Shiu-wing, will reflect on his career and on how to overcome adversity.

"Fly Up to the Sky" series
There is more than one way to succeed, and everyone can create their own path to success by planning personal goals. On September 3, the Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Modern History Society of Hong Kong, Dr Joseph Ting, will share memories of his long journey through studies and career; on September 17, Divisional Officer of the Fire Services Department, Ms Wu Lai-fong, one of the city’s first female Senior Station Officers, will tell of her inspirational experience in achieving her life goals; on September 24, Professor of the Department of History of the Hong Kong Baptist University, Mr Mak King-sang, will talk about his intercultural experience of living in West Germany and Taiwan; and on October 22, Mr Vincent Chu, known as “Asia’s No.1 Civil Engineer”, will tell his life story of continually striving for success.

Programme details in Chinese are available on posters displayed in libraries and at www.hkpl.gov.hk/mta.
