The 11th Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Co-operation and Development Forum and Trade Fair (PPRD Forum) was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, today (August 25). The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, led the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government delegation to join the Forum.

The Eleventh PPRD Forum was jointly organised by the provincial governments of Guangdong and Fujian under the theme "Deepening Pan-Pearl River Delta regional co-operation and promoting innovation of Pilot Free Trade Zones". During the Forum, the HKSAR Government jointly held a business networking luncheon with the provincial governments of Guangdong and Fujian as well as the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government. The business networking luncheon attracted some 150 participants, including government officials from PPRD provinces /regions and representatives from enterprises and academics.

A Government spokesman said, "In the National 13th Five-Year Plan, the chapter dedicated to Hong Kong makes clear for the first time the support for Hong Kong and Macau to play an important role in the Pan-Pearl River Delta regional co-operation. The business networking luncheon assisted enterprises of Hong Kong and other PPRD provinces/regions to open up more business and investment opportunities brought about by Pilot Free Trade Zones and gave full play to Hong Kong's role as the 'super-connector'."

The PPRD Forum, which is an important regional co-operation platform, covers nine provinces/regions in the Mainland (namely Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan) and the Hong Kong and Macau SARs, accounting for one-third of the country's population and gross domestic product.
