Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cannabis buds (with photo)

On August 21, Customs officers inspected two air mail parcels arriving from Canada which were declared as "HOPS", at the Express Cargo Terminal, Hong Kong International Airport. Upon examination, 44 packs of suspected cannabis buds weighed about 11 kilograms were found concealed within the hops. During subsequent follow-up investigation, Customs officers arrested two men and two women in connection with the case in Tin Shui Wai on August 23.
The four arrested persons aged between 22 and 25, one 22 year-old male arrestee claimed to be a warehouse worker and others claimed to be unemployed. After investigation, three arrested persons were charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug. They will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (August 25). One 22 year-old female arrestee was put on bail pending further investigation.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
