*******************************************

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (August 18) visited the Temple of Literature in Hanoi to learn more about the protection and preservation of historical and heritage sites and buildings in Vietnam. Built in 1070, the temple housed Vietnam’s first national university. The temple has survived wars and disasters in the past and has preserved ancient architectural styles of many dynasties and precious relics.

She then attended lunch with the Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, Mr Nguyen Doan Toan, and updated him on the latest developments in Hong Kong. They exchanged views on issues of mutual interest including opportunities for closer collaboration between Hong Kong and Hanoi in various aspects.

In the afternoon, Mrs Lam visited an apparel factory owned by a Hong Kong-based global company. The factory was built with the capacity to produce 16 million apparel items a year, creating more than 7 000 jobs for the local population.

On the conclusion of her visit to Vietnam, Mrs Lam will return to Hong Kong in the evening.
