Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

     A contractor (no English name; please refer to the Chinese version of the press release for the Chinese name) was fined $95,000 at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (August 16) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on October 25, 2015, at a tunnelling site in Mai Po. A worker engaged in grouting work inside a tunnel under construction was hit by a ruptured high-pressure flexible air hose, causing him to fall about one metre from a gangway. He sustained a fatal injury.
