The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, and the Vice Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Yin Hejun, co-chaired the 11th meeting of the Mainland/Hong Kong Science and Technology Co-operation Committee held in Guiyang today (August 16).

Mr Yang said, "The Dedicated Chapter on Hong Kong and Macao in the National 13th Five-Year Plan states that the Mainland will support the Mainland and Hong Kong to commence co-operation in innovation and technology (I&T), micro, small and medium enterprises, as well as the young people of Hong Kong to develop start-up businesses in the Mainland, and Hong Kong in developing the I&T industry and nurturing emerging industries. Hong Kong should grasp the opportunities brought about by the Plan and make full use of its role as 'super-connector' to foster I&T exchanges and collaboration among local, Mainland and overseas institutions and companies."

He added, "Young people are crucial to the development of I&T. The Committee agreed that both sides would work together to promote exchanges between young people of both places on I&T and entrepreneurship. That would encourage more young people to pursue an I&T career, thus advancing the mutual development of I&T industries in both places."
