Live broadcast of HK athletes in Olympic badminton competitions at Smithfield Sports Centre tonight
******************************************************************************************
     To tie in with the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has set up Olympic Focal Sites at five sports centres to broadcast memorable highlights of the Games’ competitions every day and to provide an array of fun-filled sports-themed activities, allowing the public to share the excitement and soak up the atmosphere of the spectacular world sports event.

     Following the overwhelming response of the live broadcast of Hong Kong cyclist Lee Wai-sze's competition specially arranged at the Smithfield Sports Centre in Central and Western District last night (August 13), LCSD will also arrange live broadcasts of today’s (August 14) badminton competitions featuring Hong Kong athletes Yip Pui-yin and Angus Ng at the same venue. They will be performing at Hong Kong time 7.30pm and 8.40pm respectively.

     The remaining four Olympic Focal Sites are set up at the Kowloon Park Sports Centre in Yau Tsim Mong District, the Chai Wan Sports Centre in Eastern District, the Hong Kong Velodrome in Sai Kung District and the Ping Shan Tin Shui Wai Sports Centre in Yuen Long District. Large television walls have been set up in these sport centres to show daily selected moments from the Olympic Games. Various activities will also be held at specific time, including:

  • sports and cultural performances;
  • sports-themed booth games;
  • exhibitions about Olympics and its events;
  • sports demonstrations and participation activities; and
  • Rio 2016 Olympic Games gold medal standings.

     The Olympic Focal Sites are open from 8am to 11pm between August 6 and 21.
