CEDD awards consultancy agreement for Expansion of Mountain Bike Trail Networks in Mui Wo and Chi Ma Wan on South Lantau (with photo)

     The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (August 12) signed a consultancy agreement with Jacobs China Limited for detailed design and construction supervision for the expansion of the Mountain Bike Trail (MBT) networks in Mui Wo and Chi Ma Wan, South Lantau.

     The project includes:

1. a training ground of about 4.5 hectares near Lai Chi Yuen Tsuen with supporting facilities;

2. MBTs with a total length of about 6.3 km from the Mui Wo trailhead to the proposed training ground, from the Chi Ma Wan MBT loop network to Shap Long Chung Hau, and joining the two ends of the existing Chi Ma Wan MBT to form a circular MBT network;

3. a bikers’ gathering place at the entrance to the proposed MBT at Mui Wo Ferry Pier Road; and

4. associated geotechnical, landscape and ancillary works.

     The consultancy agreement costs $7.1 million with a duration of about 33 months.

     The improvement and expansion works for the South Lantau MBT network are carried out in two phases. The first phase aims to improve the existing MBT network and is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. The aforementioned works are under the second phase. Upon completion of the works, people’s enjoyment of mountain biking on South Lantau will be further enhanced.
